Refviero is a five-cabin phinisi, family-owned and family-run today, with ocean-view cabins on the upper deck and a layout that stays simple rather than sprawling.   Charter the whole boat if you're a family or a larger group wanting Komodo on your own terms, or book into the Shared Journey if it's just a couple of you joining a cabin instead.

Overview

Where Refviero comes from

The hull is ironwood and teak, built in Bira in June 2020, the stretch of South Sulawesi coast where Indonesian phinisi building started and where much of the wooden fleet still gets built.

The family that owns Refviero today runs it themselves, a direct relationship a bigger charter brand doesn’t offer.

The cabins, and life between stops

Five cabins split across two decks: a Master Suite up top, two Deluxe cabins beside it, a Superior cabin one deck down, and a Shared cabin built for four sleeping in one room. Ocean views reach two of the five rooms, most likely the upper-deck suite and one of the cabins beside it given their position. The Shared cabin is the one to book if your group would rather split the cost across four people than book two smaller cabins separately.

Three kayaks come standard, ready to launch whenever the mood strikes rather than reserved for a set stop. Evenings unwind on the open sundeck, the water and the stars doing most of the entertaining. Guests also get sunscreen, umbrellas and t-shirts on arrival, a small extra included with every trip.

Charter it whole, or join a cabin

The private ladder runs one to four days, priced for the whole boat and split however your group likes; sample routes swing through Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island and Kalong’s bat colony, but a private charter is built around your pace rather than a fixed one. The three-day Shared Journey follows a similar loop and books by the cabin instead, the way onto Refviero without chartering it outright. Either way, the crew and the route are the family’s own, not a script run by head office.

Komodo Islands

Refviero's Komodo run opens through Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong's bat colony on day one, then carries on to Padar's viewpoint, Pink Beach and the dragons on Komodo Island. Longer charters work Gili Lawa and Rangko Cave in too, the family setting the pace to whoever's aboard.

FAQs

Step into a world where traditional craftsmanship meets modern nautical design. Explore the expansive decks, social lounges, and unique architectural details that make this vessel a premier choice for your island adventure.

Bira is where the frame went down, the same South Sulawesi town tied to Indonesia’s phinisi shipbuilding heritage, finishing construction in 2020. The build itself uses ironwood and teak, a pairing still common on hulls from that coast.

Three kayaks travel with the boat, so there’s nothing to book or collect ashore before you sail. The crew launches them wherever you’re anchored rather than saving them for one scheduled stop, and they’re the only water toy beyond the standard snorkel kit here, no jet skis or paddleboards. If a bay looks good for an hour on the water, that’s really all it takes to ask.

Sunscreen, umbrellas and t-shirts come with every trip, handed out on arrival rather than something to buy or throw in a bag beforehand. It’s one of the few extras built into a boat that otherwise keeps things simple, no dive computers or gadgets thrown in, just the basics covered so you can travel lighter.

Diving isn’t a built product here, no dedicated Diving voyage exists for this boat, but it can be arranged on request before you book, worked out case by case rather than confirmed instantly like a dedicated dive boat’s schedule. Snorkeling is included on every trip with gear provided, and Komodo’s cruising stops hold enough reef life that most guests don’t miss the tank.
